Entry 10---Have a belief; just make sure it’s not a stupid one.

Everyone needs to believe in something other than their self.  A belief in something else gives you motivation.  The belief gives you a basis for stances you take on any topic.  Without a belief, then you are not anchored.
What do you believe?  Just think about that for a minute, you can come up with an entire list, if you try.  If you have a belief can you support that in an argument or a discussion?  If you have trouble supporting it in an argument or discussion, then perhaps you need to look at the belief and change or modify it.  I have met a lot of people that were passionate about a belief they held, but when questioned (out of curiosity) they devolve into emotional arguments.  When that happens, perhaps their belief is erroneous and they need to do some self evaluation of what they believe.
If someone cannot discuss their beliefs in a logical non-confrontational manner, then they are falling short on actually knowing what they believe and what the implications are for the belief.  Since it is an election year, I have seen a lot of people espouse beliefs that they cannot support without a discussion becoming a heated argument.  Logical people examine facts and draw conclusions, they base their arguments on those facts and when they disagree with someone else, that is okay.  Everyone doesn’t have to agree with you.  What a boring world that would be.  You do not have to convince everyone to believe the way you do.  How confrontational?!  Some people just like to be confrontational, so maybe it isn’t the passion for their belief speaking; maybe it is their desire to have a confrontation.  Don’t close yourself off to new ideas, listen, and then learn; from this you can reevaluate your stance and maybe change or maybe not.
